History
Museum MACAN (Modern and Contemporary Art in Nusantara) has an intriguing history that began with the passion for art and the vision of its founder, Haryanto Adikoesoemo. Inspired by his love for art and his desire to contribute to the cultural development of Indonesia, Haryanto embarked on a mission to establish a world-class museum that would showcase modern and contemporary art.
The journey of Museum MACAN started in 2008 when Haryanto began acquiring a significant collection of artworks from renowned international and Indonesian artists. He envisioned creating a platform for art appreciation, education, and cultural exchange in Jakarta.
After years of meticulous planning and preparations, Museum MACAN officially opened its doors to the public on November 4, 2017. Designed by architect Yori Antar, the museum's striking building reflects a harmonious blend of contemporary aesthetics and Indonesian architectural elements.
